Sacramento Bee: New Hawks restaurant opens in Sacramento

Hawks Public House, the more casual-leaning Sacramento extension of critically acclaimed fine-dining Granite Bay restaurant Hawks, has opened after months of anticipation.

The new restaurant, on Stockton and Alhambra boulevards, started serving dinner Tuesday and will add lunch soon. Hawks Provisions, a takeout spot next door, is expected to open in a few weeks.

We tried Hawks Public House’s liverwurst small plate, which held a generous portion of mildly tangy liverwurst, plus frisee and apple slices, and cost just $6.

The pub’s menu focuses on small bites but includes three entree pastas, a burger and braised pork shank.

Though the restaurant’s exterior evokes that vaguely Mediterranean style so popular in suburban shopping centers, the interior is warm and inviting, with abundant wood touches. In other words, pub-like.

The long bar looks like the place to sit (there were no spots available when we visited). Hawks offers craft cocktails, wine by the bottle, glass and half-glass, and draft beers including Bike Dog Mosaic Pale Ale and American River Brewing Co.’s Coloma Brown.
